How to manage users on many sites under one Drupal Installation? -

i work government organization , trying move drupal. job right figure out best way limit access content based on user , roles.

the big issue have not yet figured out this:

if want have many different sites many different departments each own users. can limit access content , taxonomy terms (and @ 1 department should or should not see) on same site? in research seems possible involves creation of many, many different content types , roles , making 1 massive drupal site.

is best way go? better have 1 site many nodes or many sites? if many sites way go still have same domain? (ie: www.government.com/parks , www.government.com/police, etc...)

if has insight or resources issue appreciative. willing buy books or other resources (within reason) if worthwhile resources.

you can go having different subdomains different departments. domain access module helpful in case. in case, code base same subdomains (as there 1 drupal installation) users considered different. because each domain given unique domain id , differentiates.

video on domain access module

go through project page of module , can more details. hope helps you.
